SOURCE: fiat punto acceleration problems nikki, I had a similar problem with a 98 sporting. It turned out to be firstly the clutch had worn down to almost nothing and the fuel filter hadn't been changed in a good while so it got clogged.
All the parts required; filter, banjo bolt, 90 degree metal pipe from filter, plastic pipe to the engine compartment, pipe to tank, are no longer available from Fiat. They did warn me that the car could be scrap, but they’d get a selection of filters and parts from the motor factor to see if they could find anything that would fit.
The problem with the Punto may be the E.C.U as it's a common problem. Unplug both connections to the coil packs and bridge one plug with an L.E.D test lamp (or noid light if you have one).Ask someone to crank the engine, and the L.E.D should flash. Try this with the other plug.
